Chateau d’Agel - a lovely terroir

The ancient Chateau in the centre of Agel dominates the village.  Agel is a small settlement in the Minervois, to the North of Narbonne.  An international group of wine-loving partners teamed up to purchase the extensive vineyards of the Chateau, which surround the village on several different slopes with sunny exposures.  The height of the property ensures winds to keep away moulds and other diseases.  The soil is stony and well drained but there is water deep underground.

A major programme is underway to ensure all the vines are in top condition.  Some of the older vines are being ripped up and new ones planted.  There are some areas which are ideal for vines, but which have not yet been cultivated.  On account of the size of the property it will be a few years before the work is finished.  Already, there is a good range of excellent wines, from the superb value Les Bonnes red and white up through the Caudios to the very exclusive and delicious In Extremis.  Agel is now very good.  It will be truly great.
